Choosing where to stay in Cordoba, Argentina largely depends on the type of trip you’re planning. Nueva Cordoba is one of the best options for most travellers, combining a central location with a lively atmosphere, plenty of restaurants and bars, and a good choice of accommodation.
The city centre is ideal if you’re mainly interested in Cordoba’s historic sights and want to explore them on foot, while Güemes is a great choice if you prefer a more bohemian atmosphere, independent restaurants, bars and nightlife.
Other options are worth considering too. Alberdi offers a more residential and local atmosphere, while Villa Carlos Paz, outside the city, is a good option if you’d rather combine your visit to Cordoba with nature, outdoor activities and a more relaxed holiday atmosphere.
In this guide, I’ll take you through the best areas to stay in Cordoba, explaining what each neighbourhood is like, its main advantages and what type of traveller it suits best, so you can choose the right area for your trip.
Where to Stay in Cordoba: Best Areas and Hotels
1. Nueva Cordoba

Located next to the city centre, Nueva Cordoba is one of the best areas to stay in Cordoba and, in my opinion, the most complete choice for most travellers. It combines a central location with a lively atmosphere, plenty of restaurants and bars, and a good range of accommodation.
The neighbourhood has a distinctly urban feel, with high-rise apartment buildings, many featuring red-brick façades, alongside historic and colonial-style buildings.
Modern and cosmopolitan, Nueva Cordoba is particularly popular with students and younger locals, giving it a lively atmosphere both day and night.
The heart of the neighbourhood is around Patio Olmos, one of Cordoba’s main shopping and entertainment centres. The surrounding streets are full of cafés, restaurants, bars and shops, while the area also has several interesting cultural attractions.
Among the main sights are the neo-Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Los Capuchinos), the Evita Fine Arts Museum (Palacio Ferreyra), the Provincial Museum of Natural Sciences and the Paseo del Buen Pastor, a former convent complex that is now a popular cultural and leisure space with exhibitions, events, shops and restaurants.
For some green space, Sarmiento Park is just a short walk away. It is Cordoba’s main urban park and a pleasant place to take a break from the busy streets, with gardens, walking paths and artificial lakes.
Nueva Cordoba is also a good base for exploring the rest of the city. The historic centre is within walking distance, while buses provide easy connections to other parts of Cordoba.
The neighbourhood itself is very walkable, so you can reach many restaurants, bars, shops and attractions without relying on public transport.
With its central location, lively nightlife and excellent choice of restaurants and accommodation, Nueva Cordoba is particularly well suited to first-time visitors, couples, younger travellers and anyone who wants to be close to both the city’s attractions and nightlife.
There is a good choice of accommodation, from hostels and apartments to mid-range and upscale hotels.

2. Cordoba City Centre

The city centre is the historic heart of Cordoba and a very good area to stay if you want to explore the city on foot and be close to its main historic sights.
This is where you’ll find some of Cordoba’s most important landmarks, including the Jesuit Block, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the city’s highlights. Other sights that you should visit include the Cordoba Cabildo, the National College of Monserrat and the Church of the Society of Jesus.
The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and San Martín Square, Cordoba’s main square, are also just a short walk away. The surrounding streets are home to numerous historic buildings dating from the Spanish colonial period, giving the centre much of its character.
There is more to the centre than historic buildings. You’ll also find museums, cultural attractions and landmarks such as the Teatro Real, as well as plenty of cafés, restaurants, shops and other everyday services.
Everything you need is close at hand, and many of the main sights can easily be reached on foot.
The centre is also well connected to the rest of Cordoba by bus, although you may not need public transport very often if you’re mainly interested in sightseeing.
Cordoba City Centre is best suited to travellers who want to focus on history, architecture and sightseeing, and who prefer to have the city’s main attractions right on their doorstep. It is also a practical option if you enjoy exploring a destination on foot and want plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby.
Accommodation includes budget hostels, simple hotels and comfortable mid-range options. The choice is generally smaller than in nearby Nueva Cordoba, but the location makes the centre an attractive option if sightseeing is your main priority.

3. Güemes

Also known as Pueblo Nuevo, Güemes is less than 2 km from the city centre and runs parallel to La Cañada stream, making it an excellent choice for staying in Cordoba, particularly if you want to be close to the city’s main attractions while still enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere.
It is one of Cordoba’s most bohemian and alternative neighbourhoods, something that is particularly evident along Belgrano Street, one of the city’s main cultural, commercial and gastronomic hubs.
Another of the neighbourhood’s key landmarks is the Paseo de las Artes, home to the Craft Market, with its many stalls selling local handmade products, as well as the Municipal Historical Archive and the Latin American Museum of Handicrafts.
In recent years, Güemes has become one of the city’s liveliest and most popular neighbourhoods for those looking to experience its more alternative nightlife, which is concentrated mainly around Belgrano Street.
Central yet peaceful, Güemes is a good option for staying in Cordoba. There is a wide range of accommodation, with prices varying considerably.

4. Alberdi

Located just west of the city centre, Alberdi is one of Cordoba’s most traditional neighbourhoods. It has a more residential feel than Nueva Cordoba or the city centre, while still being close enough to the main attractions to make it a practical base for exploring the city.
La Cañada, one of Cordoba’s best-known landmarks, forms part of the neighbourhood’s eastern edge, while Colón Avenue runs through Alberdi and provides good connections with the centre and other parts of the city.
The heart of the neighbourhood is Colón Square, around which you’ll find several interesting sights, including the neo-Gothic Church of María Auxiliadora and the Jesuit Crypt. Alberdi is also home to the National Hospital of Clinics, which houses the Dr Pedro Ara Anatomical Museum and is closely linked to the neighbourhood’s history and identity.
Alberdi has a strong local character and is less geared towards tourists than Nueva Cordoba or the historic centre. It can therefore be a good option if you want to experience a more traditional side of Cordoba while staying relatively close to the centre.
Football fans have another reason to consider Alberdi: it is home to Club Atlético Belgrano, one of Cordoba’s best-known football clubs. The club’s stadium, El Gigante de Alberdi, is an important part of the neighbourhood’s identity and makes the area particularly interesting for football enthusiasts.
Accommodation is generally more affordable than in the most central and popular areas, with a selection of hotels and apartments to choose from. Alberdi can be a good option if you’re looking for better value for money and a quieter, more residential atmosphere without staying too far from the city centre.

5. Villa Carlos Paz

Located around 36 km from Cordoba, Villa Carlos Paz is a popular alternative to staying in the city itself. Set in the Punilla Valley, in the Sierras de Cordoba, it offers a very different experience, with mountain scenery, outdoor activities and a more resort-like atmosphere.
Villa Carlos Paz is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cordoba Province, particularly during the summer. Its location on the shores of Lake San Roque, surrounded by hills and mountains, makes it a good choice if you want to combine your visit to Cordoba with some time in nature.
There are plenty of things to do in and around the town, from enjoying the beaches and bathing areas to hiking, fishing and water sports. The surrounding mountains also offer opportunities for exploring the area’s natural scenery.
As an established tourist destination, Villa Carlos Paz has a wide range of restaurants, cafés, shops and tourist services, as well as plenty of accommodation. One of its best-known landmarks is the Cuckoo Clock, a popular meeting point in the centre of town.
Villa Carlos Paz is particularly worth considering if you prefer nature and outdoor activities to city sightseeing, or if you are looking for a more relaxed holiday atmosphere. However, keep in mind that staying here means being outside Cordoba city, so it is less convenient if your main goal is to visit the city’s historic centre and attractions.
Accommodation ranges from budget hotels and apartments to higher-end options, with plenty of choice during the main tourist season. Prices can vary considerably depending on the time of year, with summer generally being the most expensive period.
