Are you traveling to Bilbao and unsure how to get from the airport to the city center? This guide will walk you through all the ways to travel from Bilbao Airport to downtown Bilbao, including prices, schedules, and helpful tips based on my own experiences exploring the Basque Country.

Keep in mind that there’s no direct metro connection, so you’ll need to reach the city by bus, taxi, Uber, private transfer, or rental car.

How to Get from Bilbao Airport to the City Center
1. Bus from Bilbao Airport to the City Center: The Cheapest Option
The most affordable way to reach the city center is the BizkaiBus A3247, which connects Bilbao Airport directly with downtown Bilbao. A one-way ticket costs just €4.50, and you’ll be in the city center in about 30 minutes.
The bus stops at several convenient locations: Alameda Recalde 14, Plaza Moyúa (Gran Vía 46), Gran Vía 74, and Bilbao Intermodal, which is the final stop.
If you’re staying in Ensanche (Abando or Indautxu), one of the best areas to stay in Bilbao, this is the best choice. If your accommodation is in another area, you may need to walk a bit or transfer to another bus or metro line.
For example, if you’re heading to the Casco Viejo (Old Town), you’ll need to walk about 15–20 minutes or switch to the metro (Casco Viejo stop) or a local bus.
- Price: €4.50
- Duration: Approximately 25 minutes
- Frequency: Every 15–20 minutes
- Schedule: 6:00 a.m. – midnight

2. Taxi from Bilbao Airport: Fast and Hassle-Free
If you prefer comfort and don’t want to depend on schedules, taking a taxi is an excellent option to get from Bilbao Airport to the city center.
During my trip, the ride from Petit Palace Arana Bilbao (in the Old Town) to the airport cost about €38. If you’re going to the Ensanche area, the fare is usually around €30–€35.
- Travel Time: 15–25 minutes
- Average Fare: €25–€40
- Pick-up Point: Outside the arrivals area at the airport
3. Uber in Bilbao: A Flexible Alternative (Sometimes Cheaper)
Bilbao also has Uber, a convenient alternative for getting between the airport and the city. Prices vary depending on demand, but they’re generally similar to taxi fares—sometimes cheaper, sometimes more expensive.
During my last ride, the trip from the airport to the Old Town cost €25. However, during peak hours, I’ve seen fares as high as €45–€46 for the same route in reverse (Old Town to the airport).
- Pick-up Point: Parking P1 (General Zone), clearly marked inside the airport.
👉 Pro Tip: Always check the price in the app before leaving the terminal to compare it with the taxi fare.
4. Private Transfer from Bilbao Airport to the City Center
If you’d prefer a door-to-door service with no waiting, booking a private transfer is the best choice. A driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name, and will take you directly to your accommodation.
This is the most comfortable option if you’re traveling in a group, carrying a lot of luggage, or simply want to avoid any hassle upon arrival in Bilbao.
5. Renting a Car in Bilbao: Ideal for Exploring the Basque Country
If you’re only staying in Bilbao, you don’t really need a car. But if you plan to visit nearby spots like San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Getxo, or San Sebastián, renting a car will give you much more freedom and save you time and effort.
There are several car rental companies at Bilbao Airport, and you can usually find great prices online.
